SYMMETRY AND DESIGN
ACTIVITY SHEET
3. Sketch the basic shape. Label the vertices as A, B, ... and their
angle measurements.
- Find the relationship between the number of vertices meet at a vertex
and its angle measurement.
- Test your conjecture by using Fig. 4 (i.e., repeat what you did with
Fig. 1 - 3.)
4. Sketch the basic shape. Label the vertices as A, B, ... and their
angle measurements.
Homework
- Choose one of the shapes from the set of overhead pattern blocks.
- Trace the pattern block.
- Sketch a design inside the shape that is not symmetric and not very
complicated.
- Flip the shape over each of its edges, trace the new shapes with the
design after it has been reflected.
- Imagine what would happen if you continued this process and covered
your entire paper.
- Compare this to the designs in the lesson.
- If you repeated this process on the other overhead pattern blocks
which of them would cover the paper?
- Conjecture and test.
