Oscillatory Motion of a Beam

Conclusion

In this exercise, we used differential equations to model the oscillatory motion of a cantilevered beam. Initially, we used a linear damped model. However, a comparison of this model with experimental data resulted in an error graph that exhibited beats. This indicated that higher harmonic motion is involved. We thus needed to use a system on nonlinear partial differential equations to accurately represent the motion of an oscillating cantilevered beam.
