The precise definition of a combinational property is not easily given, and the subject matter treated in combinatorial theory is often shared by more than one mathematical discipline. Typical in combinatorial theory is the enumeration problem, from which arise various problems such as finding recursive, asymptotic, and congruence relations of solutions. In many cases a problem originally conveived as combinatorial eventually turns out to be number-theoretic, algebraic, analytic, or geometric. For example, graph theory, originally a combinatorial study of 1-dimensional topological complexes, has developed into an important branch of mathematics.
