Software and Videos

Kali
Downlable software available from the Geometry Center. Kali is useful for exploring dihedral symmetry and symmetry in the plane.

KaleidoTile
Downloadable software available from the Geometry Center.

Mad About Mirrors video not yet published.
The video compliment to the KaleidoTile Project.

The Platonic Solids video published by Key Curriculum Press
An introduction to the five Platonic solids.

The Stella Octangula video published by Key Curriculum Press
Lessons and video examining the stella octagula, a particular geometric solid.

Web Sites

Science Museum Math Exhibit
The original Triangle Tiling program was designed for an exhibit at the St. Paul Science Museum. A description, with figures, of the program and the goals of its designers can be found here.

Symmetry and the Shape of Space
An extensive 'text' on symmetry, Kali, KaleidoTile, motifs, orbifolds, and paper dolls.

Geometry and the Imagination
A brief discussion of just about everything in this unit.

Tom Getty's Polyhedra
A visual tour of polyhedra, including stellated and Kepler-Poisot polyhedra. Mr. Getty has also included some tips on building polyhedra models.

The Geometry Forum
An NSF funded site providing resources on geometry and mathematics education at all levels. Reccomended.

Aunt Annie's Craft Page: Geometric Solids
Detailed information on constructing models of the tetrahedron, octahedron, and icosahedron. If we weren't clear enough, there's a chance that Aunt Annie may be.

M. C. Escher wing of the WebMuseum or The World of Escher
Galleries of Escher art. Not only is this stuff beautiful, it also illustrates concepts of symmetry, and is a great source for enrichment activities.

The Kaleido Readme File
Kaleido is a program for viewing uniform polyhedra, though unrelated to the KaleidoTile program. This link provides information on the software, as well as download information. Technical.

Symmetry in Threshold Design
Contains an interesting activity for children on symmetry, with relations to the 'real world.'

MacTutor History of Mathematics
A searchable archive of mathematicians. Find out who Archimedes was!
