Presenting Mathematical Concepts on the World Wide Web
Think Big: Designing a Web Site
Assist Your Audience:
More Departmental Considerations
Here are some strong recommendations, based on experiences both at
the Geometry Center and at other institutions with which I am
familiar:
- Clearly separate individuals' personal pages from official pages.
- Carefully design your official pages, and stick with that design.
- If necessary, periodically redesign the whole thing,
but try to avoid making miscellaneous exceptions.
- Always review official pages before putting them in place.
- Clarify responsibilities and policies, including but not limited to:
- What will be on official pages.
- What must / may / must not go on personal pages.
- What documentation or clearances are required
(e.g., copyright clearances to include the work of others).
- What else?
