Browsing the Web

The World Wide Web is an exciting place to visit, although it can be intimidating for the novice browser. The Web has several programs available to make exploring easier. These search programs are similar to the idea of a card catalog in a library. Searches can be done by topic, by name, or combinations of both. The programs doing the searching are called search engines. Each has tips for the beginner to help make the search more productive. You will be amazed at the sheer quantity of responses to your query. Fine-tuning your search category will result in a more focused response by the search engine.

Depending on your version of Netscape, there will either be a button on the top menu bar called Net Search or a "Internet Search" choice in the "Directory" menu at the top of the page. Clicking this button will take you to Netscape's search engine choices.
