Eugenio Durand

Student Staff, The Geometry Center

Eugenio Durand is part of the student staff at the Geometry Center. He is enrolled in the graduate program of the Department of Mathematics in the University of Minnesota. He graduated with a B.S. in mathematics from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 1988, at Mexico City his hometown.

He works at the Geometry Center under the supervision of Paul Burchard, developing a differential geometry software system. He recently worked on QuasiTiler, a program that generates tilings of the plane by projecting integer lattices in different dimensions; Penrose tilings are obtained as particular choices of the lattice and the projection. See the web version of QuasiTiler on the gallery of interactive Web applications (requires HTML+ browser)

Outside work, Eugenio is currently in a struggle to survive graduate school. He hopes to get this over with as soon as possible, so he can go back to have fun with mathematics.
