Activities at the Geometry Center

Arnie came to the Center in 1992 to strengthen the connection between the research and education activities of the Center and the K-12 education community. As an activist in the MCTM/NCTM and a classroom teacher for 34 years, his expertise is utilized to identify and develop Center programs that promote the learning of mathematics in grades K-12.

Arnie coordinates and supervises activities related to K-12 education, advises the director on various K-12 programs, and is the liaison with organizations interested in math education. Arnie's recent activities involve curriculum materials to support the Shape of Space video and the KaleidoTile software.

Background

Arnie took early retirement after 32 years of teaching senior high-school and coordinating the math program for the 11,000-student Mounds View School District. Following a B.S. from St. Cloud State, Arnie completed his M.A. at the College of St. Thomas and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Math Education Department of the University of Minnesota. He recently completed a two year term as president of the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM). A variety of interests including music, camping, reading, mathematics, skiing and church activities keep Arnie from ever being bored with life.
