Welcome Students! Yesterday we discussed how one of the properties of a tangent to a circle is that it is perpendicular to the radius drawn from the center of the circle to the point of tangency. This means that if we can achieve a construction with such a right angle (measure 90 degrees), we have in fact constructed a tangent. Below are a picture of such a geometer sketchpad construction, a link to a script that will show the steps in the construction, and a link to a sketchpad sketch showing the construction so that you can interact with it and explore any questions you might have. After you have explored all three of these items, practice in groups opening sketchpad and doing the construction yourself WITHOUT the aid of the sketch, the picture or the script!!
That's all for now, but we hope to bring you more soon!
