Tic Tac Toe Torus Style

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Find a partner to play Tic Tac Toe Torus Style with.
  2. Assign a different color marker to each player.
  3. Choose who will go first by a toss of the coin (call it in the air).
  4. Play three games of Tic Tac Toe Torus Style. (The loser of one game plays first on the next game.)

The rules:

The rules for this game are the same as for traditional Tic Tac Toe. You want three in a row to win. This game differs from the traditional game in that for every marker placed on the playing board, multiple images appear.

For example: If the first player puts a marker in the upper left hand corner of a regular grid, then that player is placing a marker in the upper left hand corner of every grid.

Players take turns placing their markers until one player has three in a row.

Questions:

  1. Does it matter which player plays first? Why or why not?
  2. Is there a "best place" for the first marker? Where or why not?
  3. You played this game using nine boards pasted together. What ways could you play Tic Tac Toe (Torus Style) using only one board?
  4. List any games you can think of that use this idea of playing on a torus board.
