Objective

To use prior knowlege of symmetry groups to create a similar version of an optical art image studied.

Description

In pairs, students will study examples of optical art and create their own version using one of the types viewed. This activity will allow the students to explore the software and become more familiar with different versions of op art.

Student Responsibilities

  1. View the Mpeg movie to see the various stages of the " " movie used to create an op art image.
  2. Study one of the works presented. Look at the features of the work and its relation to symmetry groups.
  3. List the following: (a) Description of the features of the work; (b) Reasons for selecting this work; and (c) Symmetry group represented.
  4. Use the Kali program to create your own version of the work selected for review. (Caution: Do not attempt to duplcate the work that you have viewed.)
  5. Save your work on disk and in the folder designated for your class.

Assessment:

  • Similar version created using the qualities present in the image selected for review. (10 points)
  • Assignment completed on time. (2 points)
  • Assignment saved in the appropriate locations. (3 points...1.5 points for each location assigned. )
  • Assignment worth 15 points total.
