Summary: Slope

  1. Slope descibes the steepness of lines.
  2. In coordinate geometry, slope normally refers to the slope of a line through 2 points.
  3. The slope of a line that is "uphill" from left to right is POSITIVE.
  4. The slope of a line that is "downhill" from left to right is NEGATIVE
  5. The slope of a line that is horizontal is zero.
  6. The slope of a line that is vertical is undefined.
  7. There is a BIG difference between a line with 0 slope (horizontal line) and a line with no slope (vertical line).
  8. The more positive (or the more negative) the numerical value of the slope, the steeper the line.
  9. Slope is the ratio of the change in y to the change in x.
