0. Exceptions to the general verb classifications

1. Standard syllabic sound changes

2. Sound changes for class-[II] verbs adding endings with t

a-t -> att ...similarly for e-t, i-t, o-t, u-t
b-t -> nd ...identically for m-t, n-t
g-t -> id
k-t -> it ...except for the verb iku, which changes from ik-t to itt
r-t -> tt
s-t -> shit

3. Sound changes for class-[II] verbs adding vowel endings

a-a -> awa ...similarly for e-a, i-a, o-a, u-a
a-o -> ayo ...similarly for e-o, i-o, o-o, u-o

4. Sound changes for adjectives adding -u

a-u -> ou
i-u -> iuu

o-u -> ou

5. Sound changes for the polite ending -mas-

For the Polite Negative Present (-masen [D]), the desu is dropped leaving just the ending -masen. The ending -mas- is slightly irregular:

6. Irregular Honorary Forms

The honorary verbs kudasaru, nasaru, gozaru, irassharu, ossharu drop the r in their Imperative forms kudasai (etc.) and the Polite forms kudasaimas- (etc.).

7. Special Potential Form

This special Potential form may ony be used for transitive class-[II] verbs. Other verbs can be made potential by appending the expression koto ga deki-[I] to the simple Present form of the verb. The Passive can also function as a potential (particularly for class-[I] verbs).

8. Irregularities of Naru

Nara and nareba are really forms of naru.
