My motto (for this month, at least):
Anything can be a math problem.

I'm an associate professor in the Math Department at California State
University, San Bernardino. My mathematical interests include
geometry, topology, algebra and number theory.
Currently I'm very involved in math education.
Invite me to your school!
I'm on sabbatical all year. I'll mostly be at
The Geometry Center
and The Science Museum of Minnesota, but I'll occasionally be back in
California, and traveling to other places around the country.
I give presentations (for audiences ranging from kindergarten
through graduate school) and teacher inservice seminars.
Check my schedule for when/if I'll be
in your area (or pay for my transportation).
Projects and Interests
What You See Isn't What You Get,
Work in progress
with Elmo Moore, of
Humboldt State University.
WYSIWYG is a "replacement unit" at the middle school level;
a teacher can use this unit to replace a unit (geometry, in this
case)
from the textbook. The theme of this unit is perspective drawing.
I've included a part of
the chapter on pinhole photography, including some pictures.
Non-academic Interests
Running
The design of crazed runners at the top of the page
is a frieze pattern which has translations and glide reflections
as symmetries. I drew it using the Unix version of Nina Amenta's Kali program.
There is also a free Macintosh version by
Jeff Weeks.
You can get them from
The Geometry Center. Or you can try Kali out
over the Web.

Skiing
Here is a cheap place to stay at
Mammoth Mountain, CA.
