IDVI and IDVI Source

IDVI

The 1.0 release of IDVI is now available. A beta 1.1 release is available as well. The 1.1 release fixes some problems with postscript images. IDVI is copyright 1996 Garth A. Dickie, and may be freely distributed for non-commercial use.

The software itself requires:

a unix environment;
a set of pk font files from a TeX installation;
Netscape 2.02 or better (but not 3.01!), or the Java Developers Kit version 1.01 or better;
Ghostscript and PBMPlus, if you wish to process embedded postscript images. (Type 'which gs' and 'which ppmtogif' to see if you have these installed already.)
The installation process itself requires, in addition:
make, for managing the installation;
unzip, for extracting class files from a zip archive.

Installation under AIX is quite difficult, since the software assumes that the bourne shell is available as /bin/sh, and the installation makefile assumes that make uses the bourne shell to execute its rules. A separate release for AIX may be made at a later date; please let me know if you are interested.

In order of increasing size, you can download the 1.0 release of IDVI as:

a gzipped tar file;
a compressed tar file;
or an uncompressed tar file.

In order of increasing size, you can download the 1.1 beta release of IDVI as:

a gzipped tar file;
a compressed tar file;
or an uncompressed tar file.
You should probably make sure that only one person at your site downloads and installs IDVI, since it will grab a fair sized chunk of space on your web server (for a set of pk font files).

IDVI Source

The source code for the 1.0 release of IDVI is also being made available. The IDVI source code is copyright 1996 Garth A. Dickie, and is free for non-commercial use.
