General Position:

A polyhedral surface is in general position if no three vertices lie in a line and no four vertices lie in a plane.

General position usually guarantees that the behavior of the model is as generic as possible, and it is usually possible to move a polyhedral model to general position by small perturbations of the vertices without destroying the properties of interest.
