HOOKED ON JAVA This file contains some quick instructions to help you run the applets included on this CD. The CD includes: - Java Development Kit, beta version, for Windows 95 - Java Development Kit, beta version, for Solaris 2.4 - Additional Java Documentation files - Sample applets from the book USING THE JDK ON Solaris2.x You can try running the JDK appletviewer directly from the CD rom. To do that, insert the CD rom in your drive, and type the following commands at a shell prompt: > cd $CDROM/Solaris2.x/book/applets/imageloop > $CDROM/Solaris2.x/jdk/bin/appletviewer index.html where CDROM is the mount point for the cdrom. A window should then show up on your screen containing the waving Duke animation. If all else fails, please check out additional information on installation on http://www.javasoft.com/hooked/ or send mail to hooked@ruffles.eng.sun.com. USING A JAVA-COMPATIBLE WEB BROWSER If you have a copy of the Netscape Navigator 2.0 or another Java-compatible web browser, you can view the HTML files on this CD-ROM directly using a file url. The top-level HTML file that points to all the other files is in $CDROM/Solaris2.x/index.html GETTING THE LATEST VERSION OF THE JDK The release included on the CD-ROM is the 1.0BETA release. If you want to get the latest version of the JDK, go to http://www.javasoft.com/ and follow the instructions for downloading the latest release for your platform.
